CLAUDE RUNS MY BIZ / 14
THE SETUP GUIDE

Disconnect Everything
from Claude

Claude's native connectors make you plug in your apps one by one, and they cap you at a single account per app. This guide replaces all of them with one connection that reaches more than 1,000 tools. Setup takes about 10 minutes and costs nothing.

Verified against Composio docs and Anthropic's issue tracker, August 2026

Why bother

Claude's built in connectors work fine until you hit their edges, and you hit them fast. Connect Gmail natively and you get one inbox. Anthropic's own issue tracker still has this open: "Only one Gmail account can be connected via MCP. Connecting a second requires disconnecting the first." If you run a business, your work inbox and your personal inbox are both real, and you are stuck picking one.

Composio is a free middle layer. You log in to your tools once, in one place, and then hand Claude a single connection that covers all of them. Instead of a dozen connectors to manage, you have one.

What the free tier gives you
The setup, start to finish
About 10 minutes. Nothing here requires code.
  1. Create your free Composio account

Go to composio.dev and sign up. You land in the dashboard at dashboard.composio.dev. No credit card is requested.

    https://composio.dev
  2. Connect your first app

In the dashboard, find the app you want and click it. Gmail, Notion, Google Drive, Twitter/X and Shopify are all there, along with about a thousand more. Click through the normal Google or Notion login screen and approve access.

Connect as many as you want now, or add them later. Connected accounts are unlimited and free.

  3. Copy the connection URL

This one address is the whole connection. It is the same for everybody:

    https://connect.composio.dev/mcp
  4. Paste it into Claude

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Paste the URL and save.

DO NOT ADD HEADERS Leave every authentication and header field empty. Composio handles the login for you the first time you use it. Filling these in is the most common way this setup breaks.

On claude.ai the path is Customize › Connectors (claude.ai/customize/connectors), then the + button.

  5. Approve it once

Click Connect on the new connector. A browser window opens asking you to authorize. Approve it. The connector should now show a CUSTOM badge, which means it is live.

  6. Test it

Open a new chat and ask for something plain:

    TRY THIS
What are the 5 most recent emails in my inbox? Just the sender and subject.

If it comes back with your actual email, you are done. Everything else in this guide is just things you can now do.

CHECK THIS BEFORE YOU START Free Claude accounts can only have one custom connector. That is fine here, since this replaces all of them, but if you already have a custom connector you will need to remove it first. On Team or Enterprise plans, only an Owner can add connectors, through Organization settings.
The two things Claude could never do

These are the gaps people actually notice in the native Gmail connector. Both work through Composio the moment you are connected.

Forwarding an email. The native connector cannot do it. Composio exposes GMAIL_FORWARD_MESSAGE, which keeps the original body and its attachments intact.

TRY THIS
Find the invoice email from my accountant this week and forward it to
ops@mycompany.com with a note saying this is the one to pay.

Sending an attachment. Also missing natively. GMAIL_SEND_EMAIL takes an attachment parameter that accepts one file or several.

TRY THIS
Email the Q3 report to my three partners with a short summary of what
changed, and attach the PDF.

Beyond those two, the Gmail toolkit alone carries 61 tools: drafts, labels, filters, threaded replies, batch delete. Anything you do by hand in Gmail is very likely in there.

About multiple inboxes

This is the reason a lot of people go looking for something like Composio, so here is the straight answer.

You can connect more than one Gmail account. Composio supports it and Claude natively does not, so this alone solves the "I had to pick one inbox" problem. Add the second account in the dashboard exactly like the first.

WORTH KNOWING Composio's documented default is that a session uses the most recently connected account for each app. Reliably telling Claude which inbox to use in a given message is a developer level setting, not a dashboard toggle. So connect both, then confirm which one it is actually reading before you trust it with anything that matters. Ask it "which email account are you connected to right now?" and see what it says.

If you need hard separation today, the dependable pattern is to keep the account you use most as the connected one, and forward what matters from the other into it. That uses the forwarding tool above, which is verified to work.

If something goes wrong
WHAT YOU SEE WHAT TO DO
The connector will not save You almost certainly filled in a header or auth field. Delete it, re add with every one of those fields empty.
"You already have a custom connector" Free Claude accounts allow one. Remove the old one first.
Claude says it has no tools Start a brand new chat. Connectors are picked up when a conversation begins.
It never asks you to authorize Ask it to do something that needs the app. Authorization is triggered on first real use, not at setup.
No Add connector option at all You are on Team or Enterprise. Only an Owner can add one, in Organization settings.
ONE HABIT WORTH KEEPING You are handing one connection real access to your email, your files and your accounts. Connect only the apps you actually want Claude touching, and disconnect anything you were just experimenting with. Composio lets you remove a connected app in one click.
