CLAUDE RUNS MY BIZ / 59
THE STEP BY STEP
Edit your videos with Claude:
the setup and the style file
You talk, Claude edits. This is the whole setup we use: three free tools, one editing skill from
GitHub, and a style file that turns a generic edit into your edit. You get the install message, the
prompts for every round, and the loop that gets you from an ugly first version to one you would post.
Checked against github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes (open source, Apache 2.0 license, made by HeyGen), October 2026. If a step here differs from the repo, the repo is right.
The three tools
All three are free. You only install them once.
| TOOL | WHAT IT DOES IN THE EDIT |
| Claude Code | The editor you talk to. It reads your footage, plans the cuts, writes the edit and renders it, all from plain English. |
| HyperFrames | An open source video framework from HeyGen. Claude builds titles, captions and graphics as a web page, and HyperFrames turns that page into an MP4. It also ships the editing skills Claude needs. |
| FFmpeg | The engine underneath that cuts, joins, converts and exports the video files. You never have to touch it yourself. |
WHY CLAUDE NEEDS A SKILL TO EDIT
On its own, Claude knows about video but has no routine for editing one. A skill is that routine,
like a training manual for a new hire: how to transcribe the clip, where to put captions, how to time
the graphics, how to check the frames before rendering. You do not write it. HyperFrames ships its
skills on GitHub, ready to install.
THE SKILL ALONE GIVES YOU A GENERIC VIDEO
The difference between an edit that looks like everyone else's and one that looks like yours is the
style file in Step 2. Do not skip it.
Step 1: install everything
You need Claude Code first. Then let Claude install the other two for you.
-
The easy way: ask Claude Code
Open Claude Code in an empty folder for your videos and send this message as it is:
Install FFmpeg and Node.js 22 or newer on this computer if
they are missing. Then install the HyperFrames plugin from
https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes and run
npx hyperframes doctor to check everything works.
-
Or install the plugin yourself
Inside Claude Code, run these two lines. Then type /hyperframes and pick it from the list to start any video job.
/plugin marketplace add heygen-com/hyperframes
/plugin install hyperframes@hyperframes
-
Check the setup
In a terminal, this checks FFmpeg, the browser it renders with, and the rest. Fix anything it flags before your first edit.
npx hyperframes doctor
WHICH SKILL DOES WHAT
/hyperframes is the front door: describe the job and it picks the right workflow. The ones
you will use most: embedded captions adds subtitles to a talking head video,
talking head recut adds titles, lower thirds and callouts on top of your clip, and
general video covers anything else.
Step 2: your style file
This is the secret. Replace everything in [BRACKETS].
HyperFrames looks for a style file called design.md in your project and treats it as the rules
for colors, fonts and tone. Build yours from videos you love, not from a blank page.
1. BUILD THE STYLE FILECOPY
I want my videos to feel like these: [PASTE 2 TO 5 VIDEO FILES OR SCREENSHOTS]. Study them and write a design.md file for this project with my style: caption font, size and position, colors, how fast the cuts are, how titles come in and out, and what to never do. My brand colors are [YOUR COLORS] and my audience is [WHO WATCHES].
Step 3: the loop
The first versions will be ugly. That is normal. You fix it round by round.
2. THE FIRST EDITCOPY
/hyperframes edit [VIDEO FILE] for a vertical Instagram reel following design.md. Add captions and [WHAT ELSE: TITLES, CALLOUTS, ZOOMS]. Show me a few frames before you render.
3. EVERY ROUND OF CORRECTIONSCOPY
Change these and render again: [WHAT TO FIX, WITH THE SECOND IT HAPPENS, FOR EXAMPLE "the caption at 0:12 covers my face"]. Keep everything else the same.
4. LOCK IN WHAT YOU LIKEDCOPY
I like this version. Take everything we changed in this edit and add it to design.md as rules, so the next video starts from here.
WHY PROMPT 4 MATTERS MOST
Every correction you save is one you never make again. After a few videos the first draft already
looks like you, and the loop gets shorter every time.
What to do in the next hour
One setup, one style file, one edit you would actually post.
| MINUTES | DO THIS | WHY |
| 0 to 10 | Send the install message and run npx hyperframes doctor | Proves it works before you spend time on an edit |
| 10 to 20 | Pick 2 to 5 videos whose look you love and run the style file prompt | This is what makes the edit yours |
| 20 to 40 | Run the first edit on one short clip, under a minute | Short clips render fast, so the loop is fast |
| 40 to 55 | Do two or three rounds of corrections | Name the exact second and what is wrong |
| 55 to 60 | Run the lock in prompt | Your next video starts from this one |
WHAT IT COSTS
HyperFrames is free and renders on your own computer, so the only cost is your Claude usage. Every
round of corrections is more usage, which is one more reason to keep the style file up to date.
IT EDITS WHAT YOU GIVE IT
Claude does not film for you. Record clean, with good light and sound, and give it the raw file.
A good recording plus your style file beats any fancy effect.
