Meta is testing a feature called Reply to Keywords. Someone comments a keyword on your ad, they get an automatic private message. No ManyChat, no third party tool, set up directly inside the ad. This breakdown covers what shipped, how to turn it on, and the honest answer to whether you can cancel your ManyChat subscription yet.
Verified against Meta advertiser reports and industry coverage, late August 2026
The feature is named Reply to Keywords and it lives inside the ad setup itself, not in Business Suite and not in a separate inbox tool. Meta describes it as a way to "save time by automatically sending a private message when people comment with a keyword." It is the exact mechanic the whole creator economy has been renting from ManyChat, Boosend and friends, now built into the platform.
| THE FACTS | AS OF LATE AUGUST 2026 |
|---|---|
| What it does | Someone comments one of your keywords on a promoted post, Meta sends them your prewritten DM automatically. |
| Keywords | Up to five keywords or phrases per ad. Any of them triggers the message. |
| The message | You write it yourself. It can carry a link, a phone number or an email address, which is all a link delivery funnel needs. |
| Where it appears | Instagram ad setup. It has not been spotted on Facebook ads yet. |
| Who has it | A limited test. Meta is rolling it out gradually and has not said when it goes broad. |
Go to adsmanager.facebook.com and create a campaign the way you normally would, or duplicate one you already run. The feature sits at the ad level, so you have to get all the way down to the ad itself to see it.
On accounts in the test, a Reply to keywords option shows up while you build the ad, described as sending a private message when people comment with a keyword. If nothing like it appears anywhere in your ad setup, your account is not in the test yet. There is no switch to force it. Check again in a week or two.
You get up to five. Use one obvious main word, the one your caption tells people to
comment, plus the misspellings and variations people will actually type. If your CTA is
"comment GUIDE", add GUIDE, Guide if matching is case
sensitive on your account, and the words people reach for anyway, like
INFO or LINK.
One message, delivered instantly. Lead with the thing you promised, then the link. Skip the greeting fluff, the person asked for a link, hand them the link.
Once the ad is live, comment the keyword from another account and confirm the DM lands. Do this before you put the CTA in the creative. An ad telling thousands of people to comment a word that triggers nothing is the expensive version of this feature.
For the simplest and most common use, comment a word on an ad and get a link, yes, this replaces the third party tool. For everything those tools do after the first message, not yet. Here is the honest scorecard:
| CAPABILITY | META NATIVE | MANYCHAT AND CO |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword comment on an ad triggers a DM | Yes, in the test | Yes |
| Keyword comment on an organic post or reel | No | Yes |
| Multi step flows, buttons, conditions | No, one message | Yes |
| Capturing the email inside the DM | No | Yes |
| Follow ups if they never click | No | Yes |
| Facebook ads, story replies, live comments | Not yet | Yes |
| Works without another subscription | Yes | No |
The pattern is the one Meta always follows. Watch what advertisers pay third parties to do, build the most used 20% natively, expand from there. Instagram did it to link in bio tools and scheduling tools. The direction of travel is obvious, the destination is not here yet.
