THE CHECKLIST AND THE PROMPT

20 things to tell Claude
to add to your website

A menu that works on a phone, a form that says what went wrong, a WhatsApp button that is always there. Each one is small. Together they are the difference between a site that feels homemade and a site that feels like a business. Here is the list in plain words and one prompt that adds all twenty in five rounds, with a phone check after each.

Works in Claude Code (paid Claude plans) or any AI builder that edits your site's code. Standards: W3C WCAG 2.2, MDN Web Docs, Google Search Central. October 2026.

First, find where your site lives
Prompt A needs a tool that can change your site's code. Find your row.
YOUR SITE ISWHERE TO PASTE
Code on your computer or on GitHubPrompt A in Claude Code, opened in the site's folder (desktop app, terminal, or claude.ai/code for a GitHub project), or in Cursor's agent chat.
Built in Lovable, Bolt, Replit or v0Prompt A in the chat inside that project.
On WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or ShopifyPrompt B on page 4, in any Claude chat. Many of the 20 are a setting or an app there, and Claude finds which.
Built and looked after by someone elseSend them this PDF. Every item is standard web practice, so it is a short job for them.
Three rules before you paste
The 20, in plain words
What each one does for the person on your site. The numbers match the prompt on the next page.
ROUND 1 · GETTING AROUND
01

Mobile menu

One button opens your pages on a phone. No pinching, no zooming, no menu off the edge.

02

Sticky header

Your logo, menu and your Book or Call button stay on screen while people scroll.

03

Site search

A search box that finds the right page, post or product by keyword.

04

Back to top button

Shows up after a long scroll. One tap and the visitor is back at the top.

ROUND 2 · LOOK AND FEEL
05

Hover and focus states

Buttons react when you point, tap or tab to them, so people always know what is clickable.

06

Dark mode toggle

A dark version of the site. It follows the visitor's phone setting and remembers their choice.

07

Loading animations

Soft placeholders while content loads, so the page never looks frozen or broken.

08

Scroll progress bar

A thin line at the top that fills as someone reads. Only on long posts and guides.

ROUND 3 · PAGES THAT HELP
09

Expandable FAQ

Questions open with a tap, so a long FAQ fits on one screen. Do it for people: Google dropped FAQ results from search in May 2026.

10

Friendly 404 page

A broken link lands on a helpful page with search and your main links, not a dead end.

11

Image lazy loading

Photos further down load only when someone scrolls to them, so the page opens faster.

12

Print stylesheet

Someone prints your menu, price list or directions and gets clean text, without menus and banners.

ROUND 4 · FORMS AND CONTACT
13

Form error messages

"Please add your phone number" right next to the field, instead of a form that silently refuses to send.

14

Form success message

A clear "we got it" and what happens next, so nobody sends the same form three times.

15

Floating contact button

WhatsApp, call or email, waiting in the corner of every page.

16

Copy button

One tap copies your address, your phone number or a discount code.

ROUND 5 · ACCESS, PRIVACY AND TRACKING
17

Invisible until someone presses Tab. Lets keyboard and screen reader users jump past the menu.

18

Password show and hide

An eye icon so people can check what they typed. Only if your site has a login.

19

Cookie banner

Asks before tracking cookies run, with Accept and Reject. The rules differ by country: check with a professional for yours.

20

UTM tracking

Keeps the campaign tags from your ad and post links and attaches them to every form, so you see which post brought which lead.

Prompt A: add all 20 in five rounds
Fill in every [BRACKET] first. Delete the options that do not apply to you.
PROMPT A · FOR CLAUDE CODE OR YOUR AI BUILDERCOPY EVERYTHING IN THIS BOX
You are working on the website of [BUSINESS NAME], a [WHAT YOU DO] in [CITY]. I am not a developer, so explain everything in plain words. Before you change anything: 1. Read the whole project and tell me which of the 20 items below already exist, which are half done and which are missing. 2. Save a restore point I can go back to (a git commit, or this tool's version history). Then work in five rounds, in this order. After each round, stop, tell me what changed and give me a two minute test to do on my phone. Wait for my OK before the next round. Round 1, getting around 1. Mobile menu: a menu button on phones that opens and closes the navigation, also with the keyboard and the Escape key. 2. Sticky header: logo, menu and my [BOOK / CALL / SHOP] button stay on screen while scrolling, slim on phones. 3. Site search: finds pages [AND POSTS / PRODUCTS] by keyword, with no paid service. On a static site, Pagefind is fine. 4. Back to top button: appears after the visitor scrolls down a screen or two. Round 2, look and feel 5. Hover, tap and keyboard focus states on every button and link. Never remove the focus outline. 6. Dark mode toggle: starts from the device setting, remembers the visitor's choice, keeps my brand colors readable. 7. Loading animations: light placeholders while loading, no motion if the device asks for reduced motion. 8. Scroll progress bar: a thin bar at the top, only on long pages like [BLOG POSTS / GUIDES]. Round 3, pages that help 9. Expandable FAQ for [FAQ PAGE] with HTML details and summary, so it works without JavaScript. 10. 404 page: a friendly "not found" with search and links to [MAIN PAGES], returning a real 404 status. 11. Lazy loading for images below the first screen. Never lazy load the first big image. 12. Print stylesheet: printing [MENU / PRICE LIST / DIRECTIONS] hides the menu, buttons and banners. Round 4, forms and contact 13. Form errors: a plain message next to the field with the problem, without erasing what the person typed. 14. Form success: "Thanks, we got it" plus what happens next and when, announced to screen readers. 15. Floating contact button for [WHATSAPP / PHONE / EMAIL] that never covers other buttons on a phone. WhatsApp links are https://wa.me/[COUNTRY CODE AND NUMBER, DIGITS ONLY]. 16. Copy button next to [ADDRESS / PHONE / DISCOUNT CODE], with a short "Copied" confirmation. Round 5, access, privacy and tracking 17. Skip to content link: hidden until someone presses Tab, then jumps past the menu. 18. Password show and hide toggle on every password field. Skip it if the site has no login. 19. Cookie banner: Accept and Reject buttons, equally easy to click. Analytics and ad tags do not load until the visitor accepts. Remember the choice and add a footer link to change it. 20. UTM tracking: when a visitor arrives with utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content or utm_term in the link, keep them for the visit and send them with every form as hidden fields. Rules: keep my design, colors, fonts and wording. No redesign, no new frameworks, no paid services. Phone first, and everything works with a keyboard. If something exists, improve it instead of adding a second one. Do not publish: I publish after I test. When all five rounds are done, give me a checklist of the 20 with the page where I can test each one.
Prompt B: if your site is on a hosted builder
Builders move their menus around, so this prompt makes Claude look up today's steps instead of guessing.
PROMPT B · FOR ANY CLAUDE CHATCOPY EVERYTHING IN THIS BOX
My website is on [WORDPRESS / WIX / SQUARESPACE / SHOPIFY], plan [PLAN NAME, IF YOU KNOW IT]. I am not a developer. I want these 20 things on my site: mobile menu, sticky header, site search, back to top button, hover and focus states, dark mode, loading animations, scroll progress bar, expandable FAQ, friendly 404 page, image lazy loading, print stylesheet, form error and success messages, floating contact button, copy button, skip to content link, password show and hide, cookie banner, UTM tracking on forms. Search the web for my platform's current help pages and sort the 20 into three groups: 1. Already built in: where to switch it on, click by click. 2. Needs an app or plugin: one option for each, and what it costs. 3. Skip it or get help: why. Start with the five that matter most for a [TYPE OF BUSINESS] whose visitors mostly come from [INSTAGRAM / GOOGLE / ADS].
What to do in the next hour
Rounds 1 and 4 first: that is where visitors get lost and where leads come in.
TIMEDO THISCHECK ON YOUR PHONE
0 to 10 minFind your row on page 1, fill in the brackets. You know which tool to open.
10 to 20 minPaste the prompt, read Claude's inventory.Restore point saved, nothing changed.
20 to 35 minRound 1, getting around.Menu opens and closes, search works.
35 to 55 minSay "do round 4 next": forms and contact.Send one empty form, then a full one.
55 to 60 minPublish. Rounds 2, 3 and 5 can wait.Check the live site, not the preview.
COOKIES AND TRACKING ARE NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL The prompt builds the strict version: nothing that tracks runs until the visitor says yes, and no is as easy as yes. What your banner and privacy page must say depends on where your business and your visitors are. This is not legal advice: check with a professional for your country.
